A fellow painter shared an image of these roses, curious to see how other artists would paint them. When I saw it, I was so inspired by how monochromatic the image was, with the roses being so close in color to the background, yet it was still so elegant. I understood that this meant that I would need to capture the lights and shadows on the rose petals with the utmost care, otherwise they would become part of background and get lost.
I used bold brushstrokes with slightly varied tones, constantly mixing a bit of light, or dark, to depict the delicate texture of the petals. The lush, deep green leaves and stems are in contrast to the background, but they are supportive rather than pull focus.
The result is a beautiful, simple piece, that feels polished, and exudes a soft energy that draws the eye and soothes the room. I think this painting is perfect for a serene corner, a kitchen counter, or as a refined accent in a bright, modern space.
